SDSP CANCELED

SAN DIEGO REGIONAL COMPETITION CANCELED

SDSP Community,

I regret to inform you all, the 4/4/2020 San Diego SeaPerch competition is canceled due to the COVID-19 issue. The  International SeaPerch Challenge / Robonation announcement has just been released (see below).  We will send out a refund plan to teams that have already registered ASAP.  We also will have a fun "SDSP in Action" program.  We will officially ask all SD Teams to take ROV / Team in action pictures for a SDSP website slide show.  The SDSP in Action photos will , in a small way bring the SDSP community  together and help the kids share their outstanding work!  Please stay tuned into the SDSP website for more info on the "SDSP in Action"!

INTERNATIONAL SEAPERCH CANCELED

RoboNation Coronavirus (COVID-19) Update

The health and safety of the RoboNation community is the highest priority for our team. As COVID-19 continues to spread around the world, we know that many regions are facing school closures, travel restrictions, and other challenges that affect each of our daily lives. As a result, we have made the very difficult decision to cancel the 2020 International SeaPerch Challenge scheduled for May 30-31, 2020 at the University of Maryland in College Park, Maryland.

We know that teams, mentors, coordinators, and regional advocates have worked incredibly hard this season designing and building SeaPerches and planning events in your region. We have also been hard at work planning for this year’s event and were looking forward to welcoming you to the International Challenge and seeing your hard work in action. Although we won’t be convening as a community as we typically do at the end of our SeaPerch season, we are actively exploring virtual options to promote the kinds of connections that we see every year at the SeaPerch Challenge. We will send an update in the near future regarding what these virtual components will entail.

We also encourage you to stay up to date on recommendations from the CDC by visiting their website HERE.

Thank you for being a part of our community and for your continued engagement with the program. Please know that this decision was not made lightly and that our team, like many of you, is heartbroken over this cancellation. We wish you all good health in the coming months and hope to “see” you all in the coming virtual engagement opportunities.

This is your Events Section Footer. It's a great place to mention upcoming events that aren't yet open for registration. You can also invite visitors to contact you for private or tailor-made events.

WHAT IS SEAPERCH?

SeaPerch is an innovative underwater robotics program that equips teachers and students with the resources they need to build an underwater Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV) in an in-school or out-of-school setting. Students build the ROV from a kit comprised of low-cost, easily accessible parts, following a curriculum that teaches basic engineering and science concepts with a marine engineering theme. The SeaPerch Program provides students with the opportunity to learn about robotics, engineering, science, and mathematics (STEM) while building an underwater ROV as part of a science and engineering technology curriculum. Throughout the project, students will learn engineering concepts, problem solving, teamwork, and technical applications.
